Fund-Raising for Alzheimers.

Drumkill Day Centre at Threemilehouse is a haven and refuge for many people through the Monaghan Branch of the Alzheimers Society. They do wonderful work with those suffering with this terrible condition, which seems to be getting more common. The couple of hours spent there by the service users does help them and provides physical and mental stimulation for them. It also gives a welcome break to their carers and families, which gives them an opportunity to look after their own personal welfare.

Scoil Rince Ni Bhrogáin, is finalising details of a dream trip to perform at Eurodisney for several young people in the North Monaghan / South Tyrone area. The group departs in December and will perform a thirty minute show at one of the world’s most famous venues. Fundraising to assist with this trip is coming to a close and  a Fun Table Quiz was held in the Red Boys on Friday November 5th, organised by Paddy Flood. A good crowd turned out to support and to enjoy a fun night and Paddy did not disappoint. As usual his questions were a total mixture of current, history, sport, TV and Music, and trivia thrown in her and there. Thanks to all who supported this and other fund-raising for this very worthy cause and we wish the dancers well and hope that they have a very enjoyable experience. Maybe some of them will give us a report on the tour when they come back.

Munster Joinery Sponsored prizes.

All of this of course is provided due mainly to the generosity of the people of Monaghan, who subscribe to the various fund-raising events organised by volunteers in various locations. A group in the Knockatallon area (the Sliabh Beagh Group) recently organised a Tea-Party for Alzheimers in the Sliabh Beagh Hotel and the proceeds of that function amounting to €1,760.68 were handed over to the Monaghan Branch on Sunday night, July 18th. The group included Peggy and Owen Rafferty, Margaret Cannon, Kathleen McKenna, Margaret Toner, Kathleen Murray, Catherine Cusker, Mary McKenna and Mary Connolly. Representing the Monaghan Branch were: Mai Murphy, Marie Cassidy, Catherine Kilgarriff, Marie McMahon, Cora Smith, Marie Mooney and Veronica McGreevy. The Sliabh Beagh Group expressed great thanks to everyone who had supported the function and a special word of appreciation to John Moyna, Francie McKenna and the Sliabh Beagh Hotel.
