Pillar House Cup.

The Pillar House Cup Angling Competition was held on Emy Lake on Sunday, Sept 27th. 2009. A good number of fly-fishing anglers participated in the event and satisfying catches were recorded. Winner  of Pillar House Cup & chest waders was Tommy McCaffery with 3 fish (heaviest bag 4lbs); second was Paul Curley, Glaslough with heaviest fish circa 2Lbs 10oz (got Grays rod) and third was Jimmy Mc Kenna, Emyvale, second heaviest fish at 2lbs 8oz (got fly reel). Others to catch fish but unlucky not to get prizes were Joe Fields, Emyvale, 2lbs 6oz; Jimmy Skinnader, Emyvale, 2lbs, and Pat Lappin, Monaghan, 2lbs. Conditions were great & flies on the
day were the Daddly Longlegs, Green Peter and Dunkeld, to name a few....though some anglers didn’t want to give away secret killing patterns!!!

The prizes were presented by Brendan McKenna in the Pillar House afterwards, where there was refreshments for everyone.

Prizes on the day were sponsored by Venture Sports, Glaslough St., Monaghan.

The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board Fisheries Awareness Week began at Emy Lake on Saturday, May 22nd. Members of the Fisheries Board were on hand to talk fishing, hand out leaflets and impart information. It was a pity that the event coincided with a major fishing competition in Ulster on the same day. That decreased the possible numbers to attend. A Number of young people attended a fly-fishing class and then fly-tying classes and as a result they were awarded certificates by the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board and Emy and District Anglers. Two of these were present on Saturday and were presented with the certificates Eanna Fields and Niall Connolly both received fishing certificates. The Eastern Fisheries Board Fishing was represented by Officers - Liam Murray, Paddy Greene and Ronan O’Brien.
