O’Duffy Cup Final 2011 - Faughs 2 - 6 V Truagh 1 - 5

With continuous light rain, surface conditions were slippery at St. Oliver Plunkett Park, Emyvale, on Wednesday, July 27th for the Final of the Platinum Tanks O’Duffy Cup final for 2011 between Truagh and Castleblayney. Both teams gave determined performances and though the Faughs had a solid lead Truagh never gave up the chase and with a bit of luck could have been closer at the end. Blayney had an ideal start with 1 - 2 on the scoreboard within minutes of the throw-in and although Truagh got back to within two points the Faughs were able to maintain the momentum and take scores when needed. Both sides were guilty of erratic shooting throughout which may be excused because of the conditions. Both teams gave of their all and there were a number of fine individual performances like Eoghan Kelly for Truagh and Peter Treanor for the Faughs but at the final whistle Blayney had the highest score and Siobhan McQuillan presented the O’Duffy Cup to their captain, Pauric McNally, The sponsor of the competition, Platinum Tanks, was represented by James Hamilton.
