EMYVALE
Emyvale Ladies Football Awards Night 2011
Emyvale ladies celebrated a very successful year at the Awards Night in the Scarna
Inn on Friday, January 20th 2012. The place was packed with players, their families
and friends and there was a great spirit evident. New Chairman, Tommy Donaghue, was
Master of Ceremonies and he expressed thanks to all who had helped and been actively
involved in the club during the past year. Paudge Colleran, former Chairman, and
Dympna McKenna, former treasurer, are taking a break as officers and there was a
little present for both presented by the new holders of those offices, Tommy Donaghue
and Maura Mohan.
Presentations were made to the U12 team and the magnificent U14 team
who had three big victories during the year. The Senior B team reached the final
of their competition and the Senior A were defeated in the finals of the League and
the Championship. A number of Emyvale girls played pivotal roles on county teams
in 2011 and they were honoured by the club for their participation at that level.
The players who were nominated for All-Stars and other top grade awards were also
congratulated. There was also great praise for all the mentors of the various teams
and the commitment they gave to the club for the year.
Club awards were as follows:
Minor Player of the Year - Michaela McQuaid; Senior B Player of the Year - Catriona
McKenna and Senior Player of the Year - Brenda McAnespie.
There was also a sad note
and one that is hitting many GAA clubs throughout the country and that was the emigration.
Emyvale Ladies is losing four of its top players to the emigration trail. Therese
McNally has already taken up employment in Bournemouth, England; Caroline McAree
and Therese Curley head for Australia this coming week and in a few weeks time Sinead
Mohan also leaves for Australia. They were wished a safe, successful and enjoyable
trip.
Tommy then thanked the Scarna Inn, Glyn Willaims for the food; John Loughran
for amplification and music; the media for their coverage and all who helped on the
night.
