Garbhan Mc Kenna takes first place at the Celtic Games

Two of our athletes were honoured to be chosen to represent Ulster in the 2011 Celtic Games which were this year held in the Antrim Forum on the 13th August.

It was a fine day and apart from two short showers the rain held off . With teams from Scotland, Wales , Ireland and Ulster competing this was the first taste of an international meet for these two young athletes. The organisation on the day was second to none and the Ulster Athletic committee are to be congratulated on hosting a totally professional meet.

Garbhan Mc Kenna was in excellent form on the day taking first place in his favoured event the Under 16 100 meter Hurdles. Garbhan won well clear of his Scotish rival in a time of 13.89 seconds, well done to Garbhan and his coach Noel Kennedy on this marvellous achievement.

Garbhan later competed in the Under 16 long jump where he took fourth position given the level of competition on the day this too was a high achievement for Garbhan.

Patrick Murphy was selected to compete in the Under 18 Mens 3000 meters. Patrick took fourth place in this event bringing to a close what has been a very successful year for this athlete. Well done to Patrick and his coach Geraldine Mc Aree.

All the athletes and coaches are now off for a well deserved break and we would just like to thank all the coaches, administrators and parents who have helped out through this past year without whom the club could not continue.

Training will recommence on Tuesday 13th September in the Oakland centre Glaslough for the younger participants and in Tully GAA grounds for the older group.
