County Senior and Minor Championship Finals 2011.

The Senior and Minor Championship titles were decided on Sunday, October 9th in Inniskeen. The weather was far from favourable for playing good skilful football but the minors of Truagh and Clontibret put on a terrific display and after a tough contest Truagh came out on top to win their first County Minor Championship. Congratulations to them and their mentors for a great game and great win.
There was a blip before the Senior game when the amplification broke down when Edelle McMahon, Emyvale, was singing the Amhrán na bhFiann. She continued singing and the crowd joined in to keep it going until the sound came back on again for the final line. It broke down again during the presentations at the end and took away from the overall presentation of the final days events.
In the Senior game things were close throughout but the quality of the football was below what many expected from two skilful teams. Darren Hughes for Scotstown was my choice too for man of the Match but his great work came to nothing as Owen Duffy’s final point deep in injury time to give Latton the victory will always be the talking point. Well done to Latton. Scotstown is a young team and plenty of power and ability to make up for this loss next year and I’m sure they will study this game to see where it went wrong and what can be changed.
