Fields Family Reunion

The Fields family from Dernashallog can trace their family history back to the early 1600’s and they have been there ever since. They also have connections with Derrygola and records show that they joined O’Neill’s army in 1642. However, with the death of Felix in the recent years the homestead, where Joe Fields and his wife raised their family, had passed to a family member but McKenna by name. The members of Joe’s family are scattered all over the world and those who survive arranged a reunion for the weekend of April 21st and gathered in the homestead, with the assistance of the new owner, for a family party. Their many relatives gathered on the Saturday night to celebrate with them and to join in the reminiscence and story-telling. It was also arranged that the five siblings would have a ‘sleepover’ in the house. Sheila, Rita, Anna, Victor and Ollie had many memories recalled as they spent the night in the house where they were born and reared. However to bring levity and fun, one innovative lady had all the necessary bits and pieces for a ‘sleepover’ and we pictured them on the bed with their dummies and teddies. It was a wonderful occasion for the entire Fields family and I was delighted to meet with them again too. We hope that they will call again soon and we wish them every happiness.
