Emyvale Festival Weekend

The weekend festival kicked off with  Poker Classic in the RedBoys on Fridnay night. On Saturday night it moved to the Marquee in the Sportsfield for a Variety Concert and a big Mr & Mrs contest. The weather took a turn for the worse and the temperatures dropped dramatically leaving lots of people with the wrong or the scarcity of clothing to keep warm. However once the Mr and Mrs got under way ot helped to make one forget the cold breezes flying about. Enda O’Brien and Geraldine Watterson did a great job as comperes and all of the couples entered the spirit of the occasion, and vice versa, providing for some very entertaining episodes. The eventual winner, and it did take some time to run off this competition as one of the four McCarrons or one of the other contestants seemed to go missing regularly, was Ciaran and Pauline Treanor. A well deserved victory especially since they had to perform in strange surroundings and with tough local opposition. Ciaran was so elated with his victory that he felt like singing and he did, to the rapturous applause and delight of the crowd. John Loughran who had provided the appropriate backing-music all night continued the music for dancing until the early hours.

Did we learn anything new from the night? Of course we did and it will come in handy some day. We know who works best in the mornings and who starts the day being happy, we know who can cook and who can’t, we know who supplies heating oil and those who need it to keep warm, and we know what happened on the first date for some. Yes - quite enlightening!!
