Farewell for Darren Hughes.

Darren Hughes from the Scotstown Club has been selected in the final 23 to travel to Australia next week to play for Ireland in the International Rules series there. This is a great honour but richly deserved considering the services and the quality of the service given by Darren to the GAA through his work at club and county level. We wish him every success and hopefully he will have a very enjoyable trip and a wonderful experience.
On Wednesday, October 19th his Club organised a little send-off party in the Club Social Centre at Scotstown. A big crowd turned-out to show their support to him and to wish him well. The County Board was represented by Secretary, Sean McKenna and he made a presentation to Darren on behalf of the Board. Girls from the scotstown Ladies Club also had a presentation as did his club. Ard-stiurthoir, Paraic Duffy was present in his capacity as a club member and a former coach to Darren at Minor level. He, and all the other speakers, spoke of the great honour this was and also how much Darren deserved this on merit. All wished him a successful trip.
I was delighted to be present to record some of those at the event as Darren may be a Scotstown player but there is a lot of Emyvale in him too as his mother, Patricia, is from Tully. I am certain that there are two of his special fans in Tully, Packie and Maura, who are very proud of their grandson and rightly so. Best wishes Darren.
