All-Ireland Title:

The Emyvale Boxing Club was reformed about two years ago and already they have taken Provincial titles back to base with Conal McKenna and Niall McGovern. One of the first female members to join the reformed club was Dolores Hughes, daughter of Sean and Laura, Glaslough. Almost immediately the club coaches recognised her ability and since then she has improved at a steady pace and was a formidable opponent in all her bouts. Now she has gone all the way to All-Irelands and on April 28th 2012 she captured an All-Ireland title. Many mebers of the club were there to give her support and to share in the great jubilations after her victory. On Fri 27th she had a semi-final in the 54kg when she defeated Sarah White, Tredagh. This brought her to the finals which were held in a packed National Stadium in Dublin. She received the adulation of all her supporters and a huge number of independents among the spectators by defeating her oponent, Sorcha Kelly from Shadows on a points score of 17 - 8. This was a marvellous win and has put her on a national stage from which she can progress further. However that is for another day and for now we congratulate her and say well done. We also compliment her coaches, trainers and club officials for their part as well as her very supportive family.
