Easy Win for 14 Girls

Donagh 55pts Lisburn 23pts

The Donagh U14 girls started with Verity O Connor, Ellen Mulligan, Celine Nally, Eimear Mc Anespie and Ella Moran out on court. A mighty start by the girls saw Donagh race ahead with a lead of 24pts to zero at the end of the first quarter. The Lisburn team were in total shock as the last time these two teams met, Donagh had only just clinched a 3pt win. This tremendous lead was made possible by excellent defence by every player on court. Lisburn found it difficult to get the ball anywhere close to their basket as the Donagh girls stole the ball continuously and went on to score some great fast breaks with flowing movement and passing up the court. Cara Mc Kenna replaced Ella during the period and she helped with the onslaught. Most of the girls managed to score in this quarter with Ellen and Verity scoring 8pts each, Ella and Celine 2 pts each while Eimear scored 4pts.
Out next for Donagh were Natasha Hughes, Lynda Mc Meel, Amy Hamill, Saoirse Treanor and Kathleen Connolly. A tougher period for the Donagh girls as Lisburn gained some composure with their best player No 31 Hannah Byrne scoring all of their 10pts while Donagh added 8pts in this quarter. The girls worked well in defence but were guilty of missing a number of rebounds. Amy scored 6pts from some wonderful lay-ups while Natasha finished the period off with a marvellous outside shot. Score at the end of the second quarter was 32 pts: 10pts to Donagh.
It was safe to feel there was no way back for the Lisburn squad as the teams went against each other again in the third quarter. The five of Natasha, Lynda, Amy, Saoirse and Ellen Molloy were out on court knowing that Lisburn were putting out their best five in the hope of gaining some ground on scores. The girls fought hard and Saoirse was first to score in this quarter while soon after Lynda scored from a free shot, Amy went on to score the next two baskets. The five on court were replaced by the five from the first quarter and the girls continued to dominate the game. Verity added the next 4 points 2 from free shots she was awarded to leave the score at the end of this quarter 43pts:17pts.
Cara, Kathleen, Ellen, Verity and Ellen Molloy were the five to start the final quarter with all the girls getting a run out later.  Again Donagh dominated the score sheet adding 12 pts to Lisburn’s 6pts with Donagh’s scores coming from Verity 4 pts, Lynda 4pts, Ellen 2pts and Natasha 2pts. Final score Donagh 55pts to Lisburn 23pts. Overall a tremendous performance by the Donagh girls. Onwards and upwards to the Ulster final against the reigning league and last year’s cup winners Ulster Elks Sunday March 25th.
