Ballinode ICA hosted a very successful Coffee and Heritage Evening in aid of Monaghan Hospice Home Care and Monaghan M.S.society in Tydavnet Community centre on Friday 16th September last. A number of side events also took place such as woodturning, reflexology, massage, manicure and flower arranging. A good number of people attended which helped create a sociable atmosphere and with the added attraction of Winnie Mc Carron’s scrapbooks there was plenty of room for discussion and reminiscing.

The book stall proved very popular as did the flowers jams and preserves. There were lots of tasty traybakes served with tea and coffee and the flowerarranging demonstration by Wilma Simpson from JP Flowers was much appreciated by her rapt audience. Wilma very generously donated the flowers arranged to the fundraiser. The woodturning corner was busy with Willie Steenson on the lathe demonstrating this highly skilled craft and one younger person was highly intrigued at the art of bartering as Willie sold one of his products. A donation from this sale was very generously given to the fundraiser. Josephine Mullholland and Pearl Boyle seemed to get little rest as the queue for the alternative therapies got longer and longer. Evelyn Fisher looked after the nail stall and all were delighted with their exquisite manicures.

A raffle took place on the night with first prize of a lovely hanging basket prepared by guild member Mary Mc Cague going to Marion McMorrow. Second prize of a Newbridge clock and matching photo frame went to Ann Treanor with third prize being won by Austin Clerkin. (another of Marys hanging baskets) Fourth prize, one of Wilma Simpson’s arrangements was won by Alice McKenna and the final prize of the night was won by our Federation President MarieCurley.

Maureen Collins was busy looking after the jar of sweets and Cassie McCormick (granddaughter of Deirdre) correctly guessed the number of sweets in the jar. I think Cassie had some help on this occasion. We would like to thank all who helped out on the night, those who so generously give of their time, expertise and materials. Proceeds from the event which was a little in excess of €1,300 will be presented to the above charities shortly. We in Ballinode Guild would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone wishing to join ICA . We meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month in Tydavnet CC at 8pm. Come along and bring a friend.
