Truagh GFC Presentations
Truagh GFC held the annual Awards Night on Saturday Feb 18th in St. Mellan’s. The Ladies Football, the Camogie Club, the Hurling Club and the Mens Football club made it a joint venture, which meant a packed house for the occasion. MC Ursula McKenna introduced the various sections and guided the proceedings smoothly through a full programme.
The Camogie Awards were first after words of welcome from Truagh Chairman, Raymond Treanor. The Camogie winners were called out by Lorraine Tierney and these included the Truagh Girls on the county teams. Siobhan McKenna was the winner of Camogie Player of the Year for the County and this achievement was honoured by the club and the Clubs Player of the Year award went to Orla McMeel.
Newly weds – Kevin and Belinda Treanor; Francie and Julie McKenna and Rory and Bronagh Treanor were presented with a gift by Bernard Treanor on behalf of the Club.
Niall Coyle, Darren Todd and Gary Fealy, representing the players made a presentation to Errigal Truagh Special Needs group and it was accepted by Bernie McKenna and Ann Treanor.
The Ladies Football Club came next and the Minors were honoured for their achievements and the following were presented with Player of the Year awards – Katie McKenna (Minor Player); Eilis Treanor (B Player) and Bríd Treanor (Senior Player). Sharon McMeel conducted this section of the night.
Gary Meehan then presented Conor McKenna with the award for Hurler of the Year and a presentation was made to Gerard Treanor to mark his refereeing of the County Senior Football Final in 2011.
The Men came next with Stephen Smith ( Junior D); Paul McKenna (Junior C); Daniel Finnegan (Junior B) and Mike Treanor (Senior Player) being presented with their awards. Sean McGinn accepted the County Award for Juvenile Club of the Year and the Minor Team, who had made history by bringing the first Minor Championship title to the club, were presented with their medals and they in turn made a presentation to their management Team of Anthony Treanor, Brian Rafferty and Liam McKenna. Minor Player of the Year was announced as Dara McKenna.
Monaghan County Secretary, Sean McKenna, attended and assisted with the presentation of awards. He congratulated the Club on a very successful year and complimented them on the development of an extensive and fine facility. He also praised the work being done at Juvenile level and wished the club well in the coming year. He also thanked those members of the club who have contributed to County Board workings both as administrators, referees, linesmen, umpires.
The last presentation was reserved for the Canon Tom Breen Hall of Fame Award. The recipient has been resident in Louth for some time but that did not reduce his support and interest in the affairs of his native club and for his huge contribution to the club and its development in so many different ways and for his continued support, the award went to Sean ‘The Hill’ McKenna.
The night continued with food, music, dancing, chat and craic.
